Glenfiddich to sell rare varietal whisky on NFT platform

Buying the whisky at auction via NFT platform BlockBar will also provide the owner with a VIP tour of the distillery and an overnight stay at the William Grant & Sons house on the Glenfiddich estate. The lot is estimated to be worth £750,000-1,200,000.

This exclusive Glenfiddich whisky was distilled in January 1985 and matured in American oak casks for 16 years. In December 2001, it was transferred to European oak casks in which Oloroso sherry had previously been aged. According to Glenfiddich, this whisky is characterized by "layers of fruit, rich oak and brown sugar sweetness, and a touch of subtle spices, rich texture and a lovely butteriness that envelops the mouth."

The whisky will be bottled in 150 bottles in September 2024, following the conclusion of the private auction. Each individually numbered bottle will be placed in a lacquered ebony gift box.

The auction will be quite unusual: BlockBar will offer a single cask for sale, and the winning bidder will be the lucky winner of the NFT cask. The bidding will end on July 24, 2024, and NFT bottles can be exchanged in February 2025.
