74Some miners, like Marathon Digital and Hut 8, moved here in 2021 when China imposed restrictions on the industry.
Other companies chose Texas because of its easy access to renewable energy and relatively low electricity costs. On July 9, for example, miner Hut 8 announced its expansion into West Texas, calling the state "one of the lowest local wholesale electricity prices in North America."
However, as it was later revealed, the influx of miners into Texas has had a negative impact on the state's residents. In particular, due to the high noise level of 91 decibels created by bitcoin mining machines, a number of patients have been diagnosed with hearing loss.
The noise from miners is comparable to the noise level of a lawn mower or chainsaw. According to the Hearing Health Foundation, sounds exceeding 70 decibels cause hearing problems. Especially when it comes to prolonged exposure to a person.
Other health problems reported by doctors to Texas residents are sleep disturbances, dizziness, tremors and fainting spells. These ailments are most often reported in elderly patients.
