The co-founder of Samourai Wallet denies U.S. Department of Justice charges of laundering funds through the organization of a financial criminal scheme. He faces up to 25 years in prison.

According to the Justice Department, Samourai Wallet facilitated the "whitewashing" of more than $100 million in cryptocurrencies from such darknet trading platforms as Silk Road and Hydra Market.

U.S. law enforcement authorities seized Samourai Wallet's servers in Iceland, shut down the service's website, and Google (NASDAQ:GOOGL) was issued a cease-and-desist order for its mobile app in the Google Play Store.

William Lottern Hill was extradited from Portugal and is now in the US, where he is insisting on the right to travel abroad to his family. The hearing, presided over by Judge Sarah Netbern, is scheduled to begin July 9-10 in New York.

Earlier, Railgun co-founder Alan Scott said at the ETH Global conference in Sydney that his meetings with the US Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) leadership showed that officials have no intention of opposing the privacy of cryptocurrency owners.
